As cold and flu season arrives along with sweater weather and soup season, the Ontario government is encouraging people to get vaccinations this fall.

Starting this week, the province has opened free COVID-19 vaccines for at-risk people. That will be followed by influenza vaccines on Sept. 29.

Health care providers say it is safe to get both vaccines at the same time.

COVID-19 vaccinations

Earlier this summer, Health Canada announced it had approved an updated version of a Comirnaty vaccine, which targets a variant of the COVID-19 virus — one of the most recently circulating lineages. Both Pfizer Canada and Moderna Canada are approved to produce the vaccine, with Moderna’s made in Ontario in pre-filled syringes.
