Folks flocking to the Panhandle-South Plains Fair this week may leave stuffed with funnel cakes and queasy from rides. They may also leave with a new plant and a bit of knowledge about gardening.

This year's fair is bringing the addition of what Lubbock's Texas A&M Agrilife extension office is calling a plant swap, where area residents are encouraged to flex their green thumbs and share the gift of gardening, and perhaps take home a new plant for free.

Surrounded by a variety of irises, succulents and other little green plants in the fair's Horticulture Building, Texas A&M Agrilife extension office horticulture agent Christina Reid said the concept of a plant swap is relatively simple.
