STILLWATER, Okla. (KFOR) — After 21 seasons at the helm, the Mike Gundy era is over following a losing season last year and a rough start this year.

OSU's Athletic Director Chad Weiberg says Gundy was not given the option of finishing out this season.

Weiberg thanked Gundy for all he has done for the program, but said he wasn't holding up to the winning standard anymore, so it was time for a change.

While many fans expected Gundy to be fired, they weren't prepared for it to happen this early in the season.

"I fully expected to beat the University of Tulsa," Weiberg said. "You know, I expected the results of this season to be different than they've been so far."
