INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita on Wednesday announced he's issued a warning to the Indianapolis City-County Council regarding funding for the Marion County Sheriff's Office (MSCO) in relation to federal immigration enforcement.
Rokita's office said earlier this month, a council committee "discussed proposals to limit MCSO's 2026 budget to prevent the sheriff's office from providing detention space to ICE."
"Were the Council to do so, the Council would likely be in violation of state law, which prohibits local government entities from restricting or interfering with other government entities’ ability to assist and cooperate with federal immigration authorities," Rokita said in a Sept. 22 letter addressed to all members of the council.
Rokita said if the council "atte
