I am writing in response to your coverage of Madison County’s plan to purchase former Cazenovia College buildings to house the sheriff’s office and 911 center ( “Madison County to move sheriff’s offices, 911 center to former Cazenovia College campus,” Sept. 17, 2025).

While your article presented this as a straightforward, cost-saving measure, it failed to acknowledge the widespread and growing opposition in Cazenovia. Over 100 residents gathered last week to voice serious concerns about this plan concerns that were shared with your newsroom, but not reported or responded to yet.

The problem is not just the sheriff’s relocation. It is how this deal was made: quietly, with no meaningful public input from the community that will bear the brunt of the impact. The decision
