Suspicious device found during traffic stop in Newcastle, driver arrested for outstanding warrant

NEWCASTLE, Maine (WABI) - A traffic stop in Newcastle early Monday morning resulted in the Maine State Police Bomb Team being called to the scene.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a vehicle on Main Street shortly after midnight.

The driver was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies say they found material that appeared to resemble an explosive device.

The Maine State Bomb Team as well as the State Fire Marshal’s Office were then called to the scene.

The device was secured and taken to a laboratory for further analysis.

No other information was released.

The identity of involved parties is currently being withheld as the investigation continues.
