An 80-year-old man died after experiencing a medical episode while driving in York County last week, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Thomas Downey, of York County, died after a single-vehicle crash that happened around 7:40 a.m. on Sept. 15 on Pleasant Valley Road near Taylor Hill Road in Shrewsbury Township.

Police said Downey was traveling southbound on Pleasant Valley Road in a Mazda MX-5 when he experienced a medical episode, which caused him to swerve off the road and down an embankment.

Downey crashed into a boulder, police said, and his vehicle flipped onto its roof.

Downey was pronounced dead after he was transported to York Hospital.
