Police are investigating after human remains were found at a construction site in Greenwich last week.

The remains were discovered last Thursday when the soil was disturbed as crews were using an excavator in an unspecified area in northern Greenwich, according to the Greenwich Police Department .

Police said preliminary information indicated the remains are “of considerable age.” They were collected from the scene and turned over to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The medical examiner will work to identify the remains and determine a cause of death.

Investigators in Greenwich are being assisted by Connecticut State Police.

No other information was immediately released.
