Cavs sign 6-foot-7 forward hoping to become first NBA player from Nicaragua

The Cleveland Cavaliers made a handful of depth signings heading into training camp.

One of them, Norchad Omier, is seeking to make history.

Omier, whose signing was reported by Cleveland.com's Chris Fedor , is from Nicaragua. There has never been an NBA player from that country to appear in a regular season game.

Omier was born in Bluefields, Nicaragua.

He moved as a teenager to Miami, Florida, where he played at Miami Prep and averaged 26.7 points and 20.3 rebounds per game.

Now 6-foot-7, 248 pounds, Omier began his college career at Arkansas State.
