Ludhiana (Punjab), September 24, 2025: A crisis has emerged in Sasrali village, Ludhiana, as the Sutlej River has shifted its course, swallowing nearly 38 acres of farmland and destroying standing crops. The continuous erosion has left farmers in distress, with fears of further agricultural losses.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain confirmed that the administration has deployed all available resources to contain the erosion but warned that the situation requires immediate technical intervention. Recognizing the gravity, Jain has written to the Army, requesting urgent assistance from its engineering wing to halt the river’s advance.
