Synopsis: Renukacharya moved the high court for quashing the FIR, registered for allegedly prompting youngsters to play DJ music during a Ganesha idol procession, in defiance of the district administration.

The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday, 24 September, made a strong oral observation that festivals were being used for political reasons, including by the state government.

“One thing…festivals are being used for political reasons by the state government also. This should not be done,” the court remarked while staying any coercive steps against BJP leader MP Renukacharya.

The BJP leader, a former MLA, has been booked for allegedly making inflammatory speeches during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival celebration in Davanagere. He allegedly urged youths to defy the district administration
