The incessant rain that lashed the capital city of Kolkata for the last two days seems to have abated on Wednesday. Though the sun reappeared, water hasn't receded from many areas in the city, including Ballygunge.
The unprecedented rainfall, worst in over four decades - 251.6 mm in 24 hours - threw road, rail and air traffic off gear. Power outages affected multiple areas, adding to residents' difficulties.
However, the Meteorological Department thinks it's too early to heave a sigh of relief. The sky in Kolkata will remain cloudy on Wednesday, and there is also a possibility of rain, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. Rains will be accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 kmph. The sea is rough and the weather will be extremely humid.
