STEPHENSON COUNTY, Ill. (WTVO) — Authorities said a 76-year-old woman from Galena was killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash on US Route 20.

According to the Stephenson County Sheriff's Office, the woman was driving westbound on US 20 when her vehicle veered off the roadway, hitting a ditch, becoming airborne, and landing near a residential driveway in the 7500 block, near Rock City Road.

Police were called to the scene at 3:07 p.m.

The woman, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim, pending family notification.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.
