MONTREAL - The Canadian government is establishing a task force to shape its future approach to artificial intelligence. This announcement was made by Artificial Intelligence Minister Evan Solomon during the All In artificial intelligence conference in Montreal on Wednesday.
The task force will consist of approximately 20 representatives from various sectors, including industry, academia, and civil society. However, the government has not disclosed the names of the members, which are expected to be revealed later this week.
Ottawa anticipates that the task force members will engage with their networks to propose ideas that are both innovative and practical. The group will address a range of topics related to AI, such as research, adoption, commercialization, investment, infrastructure, skills development, and safety and security.
The government stated that the insights gathered from the task force, along with public feedback, will play a crucial role in developing a "refreshed" federal AI strategy. This initiative reflects Canada's commitment to advancing its position in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.
