A man was sentenced to serve 18 to 20 years in prison for fatally shooting a local rap artist at a Springfield nightclub in 2022, according to officials and court records.

Brandon Murray, 38, of Springfield, received his sentence Thursday in Hampden Superior Court after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and carrying a gun without a license, a second offense, as well as drug charges.

His lawyer, Daniel D. Kelly, said there were “very good defenses” available to his client, who was initially charged with first-degree murder.
