Retired NFL linebacker Mel Owens is stepping into the spotlight as the lead of The Golden Bachelor season 2. The 66-year-old, who played nine seasons for the Los Angeles Rams, stirred controversy before filming even began with remarks about not wanting to date women older than 60. Now, ABC is betting on Owens to deliver drama, romance, and ratings when the new season premieres Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET. Owens was born Dec. 7, 1958, in Detroit. He became a standout linebacker at the University of Michigan before the Los Angeles Rams selected him with the ninth overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft.
