On September 8, the Zoo’s Sanctuary Asia habitat welcomed its newest resident—infant born to proud parents Pam and Ripley.
While adult Francois langurs are sleek black monkeys with striking white sideburn-like stripes, babies arrive covered head-to-toe in vivid orange fur. The bold coloring, which slowly darkens to black during the first year of life, makes the newborn easy to spot as he clings to his mother or peers curiously at visitors.
This birth marks the second time in two years that Pam and Ripley have expanded their family. Their first youngster, Fera, was born in early 2024 and is now adjusting to life as a big sister. Zoo keepers say she has taken to the role with curiosity, watching closely as the bright new arrival learns to navigate his world.
