HALEIWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police shut down Joseph P. Leong Highway in both directions near Cane Road in Haleiwa after a 21-year-old man died in a crash.

According to Emergency Medical Services, paramedics responded to the scene of the crash Wednesday morning around 6 a.m.

The Honolulu Fire Department initially reported it as an Aircraft Fire Incident before it was classified as a vehicle accident.

Paramedics declared a 21-year-old man dead on arrival, while a 58-year-old man declined further medical treatment, said EMS.

The state Department of Transportation confirmed the highway was shut down due to a police investigation in a social media post.

It is not clear when roads will reopen.
