LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A big change is coming for Kentucky high school students. The state, which has traditionally used the ACT as the standard measurement to get into college will switch to the SAT.

The Kentucky Department of Education is awarding a contract to the College Board to administer the Scholastic Aptitude Test starting in Spring of 2026.

The Department says that the digitally formatted SAT could save the state more than $350,000.

The SAT is accepted nationwide, and at a number of Kentucky schools including UofL, UK, WKU and EKU.

The SAT relies more on critical thinking versus the ACT, which focuses on certain curriculum. Both the reading and writing section and the math section are divided into two equal-timed parts.
