TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The city of Tampa unveiled a new historical marker on Tuesday honoring musical legends of Central Avenue who helped shape the sound of American music into what it is today.

The unveiling took place on what would've been the 95th birthday of singer, songwriter, and pianist Ray Charles, who lived in Tampa, just off Central Avenue, in 1947. At that time, Central Avenue was considered the epicenter of Tampa's African American community and a thriving hub for African American businesses and entertainment.
