A century of providing a helping hand to hospital patients was celebrated in Fremantle this month.

Past and present members of the Fremantle Hospital Ladies Auxiliary gathered for a centenary afternoon tea hosted by the South Metropolitan Health Service on September 4 to celebrate their legacy of community service.

Stories were shared of the changing face of voluntary service and health care over the past 100 years.

Thanks to their coloured uniforms they have been known as the Lavender Ladies and the Terracotta Tarts. These days members wear a teal uniform and a centenary commemorative apron.

They have been much-loved for the “Lolly Trolley” they wheeled through the hospital wards for 60 years.
