ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (WJW) - The deadline to Ohio's new driver's education law is fast approaching.

Phones are ringing nonstop at 911 Driving School in Rocky River as parents rush to get their teens scheduled for lessons before a new law takes effect Sept. 30.

“We are getting a lot of calls for the under 21, and it’s busy, busy,” said Marie Scott, with 911 Driving School. “We’re still so busy from summer that we feel bad having to turn some away."

The change in state law means all first-time drivers under 21 must now complete a full driver’s education course plus 50 hours of supervised practice before applying for their license.

Previously, anyone over 18 could skip driver’s ed and go straight to the road test.
