CLEVELAND (WJW) -- The city of Cleveland has been officially chosen to host the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games.

The contract was signed at a Wednesday, Sept. 24, ceremony in Key Tower, following a competitive bidding process begun in 2024, which considered the region's infrastructure, resources and community support for the games, according to a Wednesday news release from the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

The games are hosted every four years and bring in more than 4,500 athletes and coaches from each U.S. state for eight days of competition in more than 16 sports. The event is expected to generate more than $70 million for the local economy.
