HOPE MILLS, N.C. (WTVD) -- Gray's Creek High School has added extra security to its campus after authorities said it received a potential threat of "mass violence."

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said it received a news tip about a potential threat of mass violence on Tuesday.

Deputies said families and staff members were informed on Tuesday night about the threat to the school.

Details about the threat are not clear; however, law enforcement is actively investigating the situation.

"You have to take everything seriously. You can't take anything for granted nowadays," said parent Stefanie Gispert.
