TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. — Two people are charged in connection with the attempted theft of $26,000 from an elderly resident who worked with detectives to identify the culprits after realizing she’d been targeted, town of Ulster police said Wednesday.
On Monday, Sept. 22, the Ulster Police Detective Division investigated an elderly scam complaint in which the victim was preparing to send an unknown organization $26,000, according to a press release. The victim reported that, on Friday, Sept. 19, she was contacted by
an individual identifying themself as a “federal inspector general” who advised her that she needed to withdraw “a significant amount of cash” from her bank account and turn it over to them to prevent criminal charges, according to a press release.
The suspects “telephonically m
