HEDGESVILLE - Tuesday night's girls soccer match between Washington and Hedgesville was a battle of not just the area's top two teams but two of the top teams in the entire state.
The Eagles came in without a loss, while the Patriots entered the game having suffered just one loss. When it was all said and down, it was Washington knocking Hedgesville from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 3-1 victory at Mumaw Field.
"I couldn’t be prouder of those girls right now," Washington coach Tim Michael said.
The two teams traded shots and scoring opportunities for the majority of the first half, and with 16:33 on the clock, the Patriots (8-1-2) got the first goal of the game after Jurnee Vrobel's rebound shot found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
