ERWIN, Tenn. (WJHL) - Much has been made about the terrible physical toll the flooding from Hurricane Helene took, but one student at Unicoi County High School and a member of the Erwin FFA decided to focus on the mental health of the farmers who lost everything.

"So not only do they need financial support with, you know, tools, tractors, I think they need financial support with therapy, counseling. Understanding, you know, it's okay not to be okay," said Unicoi High School senior Abby Petterson.

Petterson, along with other FFA members, assisted in the cleanup after Hurricane Helene.

"With the farmers, this isn't just their home, this is how they get their food, this is their entire life," Petterson said. "They spent their entire life on this farm, and it just washed away.
