Tasmania has recorded a magnitude-4.1 earthquake in the state's south-west that was felt from Maydena to Hobart.
A resident from Strathgordon, near the epicentre, said she initially thought the earthquake was thunder.
"It felt like a really loud thunderclap that shakes the house and shakes your internals almost, but it carried on for a lot longer than a normal thunderclap," Sarah told ABC Radio Hobart's Breakfast program.
She said the area experienced an earthquake several years ago that was "lighter" than this morning's tremor.
"It just continued on for about 30 seconds or so, this one was a little bit more brief but much stronger," Sarah said.
Geoscience Australia said the earthquake struck at 6:38am this morning at a depth of 14.41 kilometres.
