COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) - A South Carolina judge listened to arguments on whether Governor Henry McMaster can legally intervene in a lawsuit over the release of voter information to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
The DOJ has requested data on all 3.3 million registered voters in South Carolina, including full driver’s license numbers and the last four digits of Social Security numbers. Dr. Anne Crook, a South Carolina voter, filed a lawsuit to block the release, citing potential violations of state law.
Initially, a circuit judge halted the data transfer. However, the South Carolina Supreme Court later allowed McMaster to intervene, lifting the temporary ban on releasing the information.
