LANSING — The Michigan Legislature is scheduling extra session days in the coming weeks as lawmakers prepare for a potential state government shutdown.

House Republicans said Wednesday that they would add new voting days over the next few Fridays and Mondays. The Legislature traditionally only meets Tuesday through Thursday.

Lawmakers could use those extra days to continue negotiations on spending, potentially speeding up the passage of any such agreement.

Majority Floor Leader Rep. Bryan Posthumus, (R) District 90, Rockford, says that he’s hoping to avoid a shutdown, but that the extra days would help in the event of one.
