LEADVILLE, Colo. (KREX) — On Wednesday afternoon, Robert Price Chase, a 31-year-old man from Leadville, made his first court appearance regarding a fatal road rage incident that occurred Tuesday night.

Chase is being charged with second-degree murder and a judge set his bond at $100,000 during his court appearance.

At around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Lake County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 13200 block of US Highway 24 for reports of a shooting. An adult male, later identified as 40-year-old Landon Lavelle Mentink from Leadville, was found dead at the scene. Deputies determined that Mentink was fatally shot.

Officials and investigators believe that Chase and Mintink were involved in an apparent road rage incident that escalated when Chase allegedly shot the victim.
