The New Orleans Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting at a Central City playground.
According to the NOPD, Wallace Gilmore, 49, has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of Willie Lemar Jr, 59. Advertisement
Lemar Jr. was found shot under a basketball goal at A.L. Davis Playground on Monday. He later died from his injuries at an area hospital.
Police say Gilmore was arrested Wednesday in the 3000 block of Freret Street. He is facing a charge of second-degree murder.
He was booked into the Orleans Parish jail.
When WDSU went into the area, witnesses told them they heard rapid gunfire and ran to make sure their doors were locked. Some residents said they also knew the shooting victim. He reportedly went by the name "Bill." Witnesses sai
