Looking for a picturesque, genealogy research trip this fall? Consider a trip to Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park in Washington County, Arkansas. A large Civil War battle was fought there on Dec. 7, 1862.

Over 19,000 men from Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri as well as many other states fought in the battle. Around 2,700 men were killed, wounded or missing. If your family history includes family members who fought in the Civil War in the Midwest, they might well have been involved in this battle. ×
