Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson will serve temporarily as senior nutrition and housing adviser at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Carson’s role will focus on advancing Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) agenda.

The big picture: Carson will act as a key point person at the USDA on issues related to nutrition, health, and housing policy. • Hewill concentrate on rural health investment initiatives as part of his advisory duties. • He is scheduled to regularly attend events linked to the MAHA campaign alongside Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. • The appointment was jointly made by President Donald Trump and Agriculture Secretary Rollins.
