LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Less than a week remains for Michigan lawmakers to finalize a budget to avoid a government shutdown.
Lawmakers like Democratic House Leader Ranjeev Puri (D-Canton) say they are “Working around the clock” to avoid any shutdown.
“This is exactly what Lansing Democrats were fearful for, the last few months when we’ve been clamoring that it didn’t need to be like this,” Puri said.
He says House Speaker Matt Hall delayed the budget process “Further than it needed.” And now, they are seeing the effects.
“We have statutory deadlines in July 1st to make sure that some portions of the budget are done at that point, blew through it, didn’t even think twice about it,” Puri said.
