ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Four months after a tornado tore through parts of north St. Louis, blue tarps still cover rooftops across the city’s northside. For many residents, the damage is still far from fully repaired, and the clock is ticking as fall weather sets in.

In the O’Fallon neighborhood, Spencer Howard spent Tuesday morning cutting lumber and trying to rebuild a back porch. The roof of a home he owns was ripped away during the May 16 storm.

“The roof was ripped right off,” Howard said. “We just gotta get in rebuild mode, that’s all I gotta say.”

Howard grew up across the street and now owns several homes in the area. His plan for his now-damaged property on Athelone Avenue is to one day rent it to homeless mothers.
