BRADENTON, Fla. ( WWSB ) - The Parrish teen charged with fatally shooting a 16-year-old at a party in 2024 was sentenced to 20 years in prison during a hearing in Manatee County Court Wednesday.
Just before 7 p.m., Judge Frederick Mercurio imposed the sentence on Carter Layne, 18, for the March 8, 2024 shooting of 16-year-old J.M. Feeney.
After serving the prison sentence, Layne will serve six months of house arrest and four and a half years of probation.
On the night on March 8, 2024, Feeney and a group of teenagers were at a backyard gathering at a Bradenton home, according to investigators.
Layne was allegedly waving a gun, claiming it wasn’t loaded, when it went off, a round striking Feeney, a popular wrestler at Manatee High School.
