FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Beth Finch, Fayetteville's first female mayor in 1975, is honored with a monument during a special ceremony on Wednesday.

Finch was raised in Fayetteville and became a civic leader who broke barriers as the first female mayor of the city when she was elected in 1975.

She was also the first woman elected as mayor of any major city in North Carolina.

The community trailblazer was honored in a ceremony at Mayor Beth Finch Park, located on Green Street in Downtown Fayetteville.
