NORTHPORT, Ala. ( WBRC ) - An update on a new allegation against a west Alabama daycare that plans to close next week following accusations of child abuse.

A family is suing The Word Academy after they say their baby fell out of a high chair.

The parents of a one-year-old allege their child fell out of a high chair, striking its head and face on the floor - a floor that was not carpeted, according to their attorney, Clint Mountain.

We’re told the incident has nothing to do with the case being investigated by Northport Police and DHR.

The lawsuit against The Word Academy is a civil suit. Attorney Clint Mountain of Tuscaloosa says the incident happened August 12, 2025.
