MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said it transported over 100 inmates to the Tennessee Department of Correction on Wednesday.

They said they transported 108 male inmates and five female inmates to the Tennessee Department of Correction, and 19 inmates are scheduled to be transferred this week.

The sheriff's office said this has significantly reduced the number of convicted state inmates who were being held at Shelby County jails.

According to the SCSO, they have been working with the TDOC to ensure inmates who are serving time in state prison are transferred out of 201 Poplar and Jail East and into state-run facilities.
