MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A 69-year-old was charged with first-degree murder after he shot a woman in the stomach with a shotgun during an argument about religion, police say.

Calvin Johnson Sr. was booked in the Shelby County Jail following the early morning shooting on Tuesday in the 3100 block of Moringside Street in Frayser.

Police said when they arrived on the scene, Johnson was inside the house on top of the victim, and when they asked him what happened, he said, "I shot her."

Officers said the woman, identified as Tamara Perkins, was unresponsive with a gunshot wound to her upper abdomen and a double-barreled shotgun by her side.
