Former Attorney General Mike Cox, Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt and former House Speaker Tom Leonard, three prominent Republican gubernatorial contenders, all endorsed the unwarranted need for President Donald Trump to send the National Guard into Detroit at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference last weekend.

During an Issues Forum on the island, the candidates did not mince words in welcoming federal intervention to the Motor City.

Cox, Nesbitt and Leonard are making it clear they would say and do anything to please Trump if it gets any of them closer to the Republican nomination. That is naked political opportunism. If Trump weren’t in office, they would be singing a different song.
