BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Canine Parvovirus is on the rise, and professionals want to spread awareness on vaccinating your puppies for the disease.
Puppies can be vaccinated against the virus between six and eight weeks old. The puppies will typically receive a series of vaccines up to 16 weeks old, ensuring they are healthy and less likely to contract infections, according to Relief Veterinarian Ruth Mysinger.
A significant reason why puppies should get vaccinated early is due to the contagious nature of the virus.
“It is highly contagious. The virus can live out in the world for a very long time, and you can take it home to your dog and not know that you’ve done that by walking through the grass or dirt somewhere where an infected dog has been,” she said.
