FARGO — AARP of North Dakota is holding statewide events to educate seniors on avoiding scams and fraud, with a forum scheduled Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Fargodome.

The sessions are led by Paul Greenwood, a former San Diego deputy district attorney who headed the Elder Abuse Prosecution Unit and now serves as an AARP fraud ambassador.

Greenwood highlighted common issues, including exploitation by caregivers, often family members, and phone calls impersonating authority figures such as police officers.

"Protecting seniors from scams is a top priority, as the United States population is growing older," Greenwood said. "We need to break that silence and find ways to encourage the public to come forward."
