A 27-year-old man who struck and killed a senior in Cedar is about to be sentenced after arguments were heard in Nanaimo provincial court on Wednesday.
Details of the police investigation were revealed during the hearing.
The victim, 90-year-old Birtha Abma, was struck and killed. She was a beloved member of her church for 60 years.
“She was lively. She was energetic. She was wise, and she loved everybody, and everybody loved her,” said Rev. Deb Hinksman of Ladysmith First United Church.
It was the evening of Feb. 24, 2024, when passerby came across Abma’s body on Cedar Road. BC Ambulance was called and declared the 90-year-old woman dead at the scene. The driver was nowhere to be found.
