CASS COUNTY, Iowa —

Iowa authorities are investigating a deadly crash.

The incident happened on Tuesday around 11:30 p.m. in the area of Highway 71 and Fayette Road.

The preliminary investigation found a Chevy Cobalt was heading north in the southbound lanes on the highway, as a Kenworth truck was heading south.

The two vehicles collided before coming to a rest in a ditch.

The driver of the Cobalt was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was not injured.
