YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) -- Virginia State Police says its Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating a fatal shooting that happened on Interstate 64 near mile marker 242 in York County Wednesday evening.

A 2024 blue Honda sports utility vehicle drove off the road and struck the guardrail in the eastbound I-64 lanes just west of mile marker 243, and the woman driving the vehicle was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center, where she later died, according to State Police. There is no information at this point on whether the shooting is connected to the crash.

State Police said initially that it was the victim of one of the vehicles involved that had been taken to the hospital.
