What looks to most like a simple studio apartment with a bed, four walls and a window represents a new beginning for the residents moving into Vancouver Housing Authority’s newest supportive housing building.

VHA celebrated the opening of Lincoln Place II with a standing-room only ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday. Like the decade-old Lincoln Place next door, the new building at 1110 W. 13th St. will support people exiting homelessness with affordable housing and wraparound services.

“This isn’t just bricks and mortar,” said JeJe Nzirimu, housing achievement and enrichment program director for the Vancouver nonprofit Share. “This is hope, dignity, stability. It’s healing. And it proves something powerful — that homelessness can be ended.”
