KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Parents of an autistic teen are raising concerns about a search this month at Staley High School. They say their daughter was profiled because staff thought her lunch bag looked like a bag someone might use to carry a gun inside.

Calls from administrators on September 3 about a distraught Zay, 17, after that search were of a different nature than a notification her parents had received a short time before. Her parents were elated to find out she was scheduled to graduate from Staley High School a semester early.

"She's always had trouble focusing. So to get a call from her counselor and an email stating that was the best thing I had heard in a while. Because she went through a lot of challenges, bullying included," her mother Tiffany Stubblefield said.
