SAUGUS, Mass. —

A man was seriously injured after a driver shot him in the leg during a road rage incident in Saugus, police said.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. Wednesday on Lincoln Avenue in Cliftondale Square. Both the victim and suspect were still at the scene when officers arrived.

According to police, both men were involved in a road rage incident in which one of the drivers pulled out a gun and shot the other in the leg.

The victim, a 32-year-old man from Melrose, was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries to his leg.

The alleged shooter, Stephen Cooper, 48, of Saugus, was arrested. Police said Cooper was licensed to carry a firearm, but will face several gun-related charges.
